DRESDEN—The Dresden village board approved the audit done on Dresden by Paul Wagner.  The auditor suggested a number of changes.  Wagner said the village board should review the insurance policy section that insures Dresden against fraud, create a written policy for use of the village credit card, review the procurement policy as the state has made changes, and that the mayor or deputy mayor needs to certify the payroll each week.  The auditor also suggested Clerk Terry Dilts keep a written record of the village’s indebtedness in one place.  A notebook has already been put together. Read More ...

Trustee questions process, spending
DRESDEN—Dresden village board’s newest trustee, Tom McGuigan, had concerns with several bills given to the board to approve, at the Wednesday, Aug. 4 meeting.  McGuigan said the bills were $1,127 for road signs, $968 for disposal (of batteries, light bulbs, and solvents), gas mileage from two trips equaling over $700, and $505 for a tree removal.  He said one problem he has is not pre-approving such expenditures. Trustee David Wernsing said that, at least with the tree, it was a matter of public safety, and that Mayor Loujane Johns knew about it.  Johns added she had a concern about the road signs bill. She said Superintendent of Public Works John Stryker sent a list of the signs needed and asked for quotes only.  However, Johns explained a box containing the signs arrived, with a bill for the village. The invoice itself, back from the supplier has “quotes only” still written on it. Read More ...

DRESDEN—The Dresden village board decided to table decision on accepting a bid for the fire department vehicle exhaust system.  The village received three bids that were opened.  Two of the bids were Smoke Blotter for $24,700 and Clean Air Concepts for $29,601.  During the opening of the bids, the third price was not readily available, and the board decided to get input from the fire department.  The board also decided to enter in a third party custodian agreement with Lyons National Bank.  Mayor Loujane Johns explained it is a non-binding agreement where the village will also consider Lyons National Bank when looking into checking accounts.  Clerk Terry Dilts added the village has already used Lyons before, and gotten the lowest interest rates from them. Read More ...

DRESDEN—The Dresden village board approved the village to be the lead agency for the State Environmental Quality Review (SEQR) to extend the permissive water service area.  The extension would help the town of Torrey if the municipality wanted to supply water to some town residents.  The board approved taking bids for a Vehicle Exhaust System in the firehouse.  The cost would be covered under the 2009 Assistance to Firefighters Grant.  Creation of a stationary installment bond was approved, for siding on the village building.  The board also approved assigning bank signers. Read More ...

DRESDEN—The Dresden village board approved the village’s budget for 2010-11.  Clerk Terry Dilts said the total budget is $435,283.  The tax levy increase is .456 percent.  Dilts explained there was no increase in the water rate, and the only reason the tax levy went up was because of construction costs and normal wage increases. Read More ...
